This kit product was designed for the enthusiast who understood electronic circuitry and knew how to solder. Nonetheless the designers considered the performance, function and appearance of the assembled product as important as any other Braun appliance. The kit came with advanced components, including a mercury switch, which activated the radio when shifted from lying flat to standing upright and eliminated the need for a physical switch.

In the late 1950s through the 1960s Braun built its design image on its range of audio appliances. Braun entered the hi-fi field after its competitors in the USA and UK, with a clear strategy to capture a share of the market. The company’s superior design, executed through the economic application of new materials, ensured its initial success. Braun’s later system design, demonstrated in its component approach to audio products, maintained the market penetration.
